Foodie Friday-Chocolate Mars Bar Cake

Hi Guys and Happy Foodie Friday,

Today I said instead of talking about places in Toronto that I love to eat or want to go to eat, I would show you the step by step guide to making the chocolate mars bar cake I made last week seeing as lots of you liked the look of it!

This was my first time making chocolate cake actually, as some of you may know cheesecakes is my thing really so this was exciting making something new. I am no expert baker just a girl who likes to try different recipes once and awhile for a bit of fun!

Ingredients:

  • 250g butter.
  • ¾ cup caster sugar.
  • 1½ cups of self raising flour.
  • 3 eggs.
  • ¾ cup of milk.
  • ¾ cup cocoa.
  • 4 Mars Bars or 8 mini ones.
  • 1 extra mars bar to decorate.
  • Betty Crocker chocolate icing.

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and grease the base and sides of a 20cm round cake tin with butter or parchment paper .
  2. Cut the butter and place into a microwave bowl until the butter has melted.
  3. Place the butter into a large mixing bowl then add the caster sugar. I have an electric hand mixer so I used that to mix the butter and sugar together but it is possible by hand also.
  4. Fold the self raising flour and cocoa into the mixing bowl. Slowly mix it through.
  5.  Then add the milk and eggs to bind the mixture together to bring that wet consistency that your looking for. Use your hand mixer for this part.
  6.  Add the Mars Bars which you should have chopped into small pieces to your bowl and fold into the mixture. The mixture should be thick yet still easy to pour into the cake tin.
  7. Pour the mixture into your prepared cake tin and bake for 35/40 minutes.
  8.  To know if its ready, when you place a skewer in the center of the cake and it comes out clean then its ready.
  9. Leave the cake in the tin for about 10 minutes after you have taken it out of the oven and then place on a wire rack.
  10. When cool use the Betty Crocker icing to decorate, use the extra mars bar to decorate. I also used lindt chocolate to have chocolate shavings over the cake to make it extra chocolatey:-)
  11. The last step is to eat it all to yourself because its too good to share!
Let me know if you make it and how it goes!

Enjoy!
Talk soon xx
